Private Investigator Equipment & Gear

Being a private investigator can require many different gear and equipment types, from surveillance cameras to camera tripods, equipment carrying cases, and covert hidden cameras.  I have compiled this list of some of the private investigator equipment and private investigator gear I regularly use in my private investigations business. You don’t have to go broke to become a private investigator.

I always suggest buying only what you need, buying used, refurbished, or like new when it makes sense, and never feel pressured to get the latest greatest gadget marketed to private investigators. When I first started as a private investigator, I fell for those traps; I tried to buy every covert spy camera and new spy gadget made for the private investigations business that came out. And I soon found my bank account depleted and a box full of “GREAT” spy gadgets, which I had never used more than once.
